My Boo Hoo Post Surgery "Run"

It has been 19 days since my Wisdom Teeth Extraction.
I am still unable to eat normal foods, and oh yeah... one side of my mouth is swollen and on the other side I still have some light bruising.

Really?  does this ever end?

I guess it will end soon enough (I hope).

The Running man and I am on vacation with my parents this weekend. It's really nice that they purchased on of these vacation club condos. We LOVE coming to Orlando. Especially since we purchased Year passes to Universal Studios.

On Saturday we went to Universal rode a couple of rides and then met my parents for dinner in the condo. Last Wednesday at the appointment with my oral surgeon I asked if I could start running. Reluctantly he allowed it. He only asked that if I was in pain, I would stop.

Today, I went on my first run. It was a BEAUTIFUL day here in Orlando. I was so excited to have a lake to run around and a new path to explore. Sadly,... as I ran my teeth started to hurt. It was SO frustrating because I wasn't tired. ... my teeth hurt - but I wasn't tired.

Tomorrow I am going to hit up the gym and try the stationary bike. Hopefully a less impact exercise will help.

Baby sister wants to try the water aerobics tomorrow at 11.

So, it's a busy active day for us and I can't wait!

Stay Sporty!

My early Birthday gift.

Everyone loves Santa, right?

Well, that's what I thought. Until I married my husband that is. ... Honestly, of all the things we talked about prior to marriage, Santa Clause was not one of the topics. I'm not really sure why. ... Anyway.

Santa was a big part of my Christmas experience. We had Santa decorations, we volunteered at Christmas Parties in the Hospital, we took our picture with Santa every year and really looked forward to the fun of Santa.

Don't misunderstand, we know the true meaning of Christmas and we celebrated the birth of Christ and the free gift of Salvation. We just also had fun with Santa.

My husband was the total opposite. Santa wasn't a part of Christmas at all. ...

I'll never forget the first Christmas we were married. We were on our honeymoon cruise in the middle of the ocean as December 25th rolled around. Guess who was on board. ... Santa! Allegedly, we didn't see him but we heard he was there.

Santa has no longer been an item of conversation around Christmas.

Until this year!

For my birthday, my husband offered to fly me to Chicago to participate in the Santa Hustle half marathon!!

Did you read that right?

the SANTA hustle. ...

I declined the opportunity to go in Chicago and run. However, I DID agree to go to the race in Florida.

I am SO excited to be running with my husband dressed as Santa the weekend after my Birthday.

It is going to be the best birthday ever!!

So, thank you husband.

How about you, have you ever run a Santa Hustle?

Juvenile Justice League - 5k Wild Walk

It's hard to believe that I am already approaching my next race! I'm really looking forward to this one, as it is for an organization dedicated to spreading the gospel and reaching the unsaved. I might also be looking forward to this event because,... well... I don't have to run. :) It's a WILD WALK at the Zoo.

About Miami Youth for Christ
From their website

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to prayer and the Word of God. To have a passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement.

How does YFC attain their mission?

YFC has a program or a volunteer or an employee perfectly suited for EVERYONE! Seriously, I am amazed each Spring as I hear the testimonies of people (young and old) who have been impacted by YFC. The Lord has truly blessed that ministry, and I am honored to walk in their event.

Find out more here!

2) Catalyst
3) Juvenile Justice
4) KIX (Kids in Christ)
5) MYLI (Miami Youth Leader Initiative)

Last March, my husband and I were convicted to do more for Miami Youth for Christ. Every year we go to the fundraising banquet, give a donation and we might remember to pray for the ministry on a regular basis. ... You know how it goes right?

Well. THIS year, Captain America and I decided that no matter what, we would participate in the Zoo Walk. Each year YFC hosts a Wild Walk through the Miami Zoo in order to raise money.  Captain America and I went with the whole Justice League theme because well... the man who introduced me to YFC has dedicated his whole life to sharing the Love of Christ with those who need it most (a.k.a. EVERYONE!) Every time I walk away from a conversation with this person, I am refreshed and encouraged to do more for Christ. I count myself blessed to know him.  So, for one of our Heroes, we will walk in support of  Youth for Christ and the Juvenile Justice program.

How can I get involved?

1) Pray.
  • Pray for the ministry of Youth for Christ.

2) Join.

The Fat Booth

Wisdom Teeth Post 1.

How many have you have downloaded "The Fat Booth". Be honest, you know you have downloaded it, taken pictures of your friends, yourself, your family and perhaps your pets. You laugh because the application blows your face up into proportions that are abnormal! Trust me, as a heavy person... I know what my face looked like with real fat. That fat booth app. ... not so normal.

Now to my point.

The swelling has gone down in most of my face. However, my cheeks are still a little larger than normal. I had my appointment with the Oral Surgeon today. He assured me that due to the complexity of my Wisdom Teeth Extraction, the swelling in my cheeks was normal and should go away soon.

[If you have a weak tummy, skip this part]

I'd been having some serious pain and nausea over the last few days. In addition to the pain, swelling and nausea I've been overly emotional. My new favorite person (my oral surgeon) cleaned out my teeth and told me that he was proud of me. [insert gold star].  He also taught The Incredible Hubs how to clean my wounds too! (Just in case I get too grossed out).

Anyway, I can't thank my husband enough for everything. If you know him, you know he doesn't have the strongest tummy. I was so proud of him for helping me through all of this. I have another follow up on Wednesday morning. Prayerfully, I will continue to heal and the pain and nausea will continue to go away.

[Okay, squirmy peeps - you can read again]

I haven't really announced this much. However, I think it's time for something not so gross and depressing for my blog.

Now that I'm a comfortable couple of LBS below I can confidently admit that less than 200 pounds!
Okay,... It was VERY (I mean) VERY VERY hard for me to actually admit my weight. However, I have found myself to be my biggest inspiration and I wanted to share that success with you. If someone else is inspired by my small victory, I count myself blessed. If not, ...well. Who cares? This blog is MY journey.

How am I celebrating?

New Jeans!

I haven't owned a pair of jeans that actually fit since January. Therefore, I will (hopefully) do my happy dance in some New Jeans!

How about you, have you hit any weight loss mile stones lately?

Money Saving Wife of a Grad Student.

While I have been recovering from my Wisdom Teeth, I've been thinking a lot about how we can save more money! It might be that I watched every episode of "Extreme Couponing" on Netflix. ... But, it might also be that I actually enjoy organizing and saving money.

I had been doing really well with budgeting and saving money until last November. A couple of days after Thanksgiving we went on a 7 day cruise to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary. After that, we went to San Francisco for training seminar. While we were away, a couple of things happened.

1) I realized my need to give up some of my unhealthy habits and start exercising.
2) I fell off of the couponing wagon.

Well friends, I'm back!

On Sunday I walked to the corner store (sshhh... don't tell my oral surgeon) and picked up a paper.
I have clipped coupons, organized them and am now skimming through some sale ads looking for deals.

I'm not one of those crazy coupon ladies that buy a million boxes of something because it's free. Seriously, I'm more of a stock up on items we use every day and try and save as much money as possible. I don't clip coupons for items that I know we will never use, and I don't buy items that I know will take me off track.

Secretly, I think I want to bring out our bill down enough so that I can register for more runs. ... Just a thought.

Anyway, do any of you coupon?

I went to CVS to try my hand at some couponing.

Total spent: 30.46
Total saved: 30.52

See, I saved 50%!

The BEST deal was getting 2 bottles of a multi-vitamin for 3.00.

How did I do it?  Well. ...

First, these vitamins were BOGO (Buy one, Get One).
First, purchase the two bottles at 9.99 (originally 9.99 each)
Then, use your CVS printer coupon that saves you 5.00 on a 10.00 vitamin purchase.
THEN, use the (2) 1.00 off coupons you found of the top of the bottle.

Giving you a total discount of 7.00 in coupons.

Pretty fun huh?

Have you gotten any great deals on healthy items lately?

...Just let go.

My wisdom teeth may be gone, but I'd like to think I'm still a little wise. ...

Anyways, my thoughts today were inspired by a C.S. Lewis quote found on Pinterest (of course).

Sometimes we just need to let things go and enjoy the journey.

Ever seen a cabbage patch doll?

I looked in the mirror today and thought, I look like a cabbage patch kid". ... I had my wisdom teeth out on Thursday morning, and I must admit - I have been treated like a princess since before the surgery.

Mermaid and her sister gave me a beautiful pink package filled with all things princess and pink.
It has crayons, coloring book, Princess Mask, Pink nail polish, jello and pudding! All things fit for a princess recovering from having her wisdom teeth removed.

In addition to my princess recovery package, my mommy came to help Mr. Handsome take care of me. I'm very thankful she is here.

Apparently, my teeth were very impacted - and very tricky to get too. The procedure that should have taken 45 minutes took about an hour and 45 minutes. I woke up when they were still cleaning me up and started to cry. I have never been in so much pain. With my head back, and the tears flowing the nurse grabbed some tissues and held my hand while wiping the tears. I then heard the doctor say he was going to numb me up for the ride home.

Also while I was laying in the chair (crying) - I hear the doctor tell me that he was able to get the teeth out. BUT - the upper teeth were so far into my sinuses that he had to cut through some of the fat in my cheeks. um... OUCH!

The nurse escorted me downstairs to the truck, and sent me on my way with my husband, my mommy and 2 more prescriptions. In addition to the medications for pain and swelling, the doctor has me on Muccinex and Afrin. - He doesn't want me to sneeze.

Well, doctor. ... I didn't sneeze.

I was too busy fighting off nose bleeds and nausea.

Day two proved to be better - I have been able to back down on pain medications and hold down food.

Here is a special shout out to my mom and husband for providing me with 24 hour care. They have sat with me, they have watched countless hours of netflix and given me plenty to eat and drink.

A special shout out to all of my Abuelas. Your home made soups are so Delicious!

A special shout out to my mother in law for the soups - the squash soup was excellent.

I'm so thankful for the love and support - I am truly blessed.

Prayers appreciated.

Going in for my wisdom teeth this morning.

Prayers appreciated.

Special shout out to Mermaid and mermaid-sis for my special recovery bag!

Pinterest Tested: Outfit Inspiration

Have I mentioned lately that I LOVE pinterest?

Lately, I've been working on my outfit for the Family 5K in January. Therefore, I have dedicated this post to some of my favorite outfit inspirations found on Pinterest.

My Family 5K inspiration.

Miss Daisy Duck

The more I get to know my character (through Wikipedia and google) I'm loving the idea of dressing like Daisy!

Here are some more of my outfit inspirations. Let me know what you think!

You thought I was going to run in that?

NO WAY! - This is my inspiration for AFTER the race.

... A girl has to look cute.

As far as running, my plan is to wear a Tutu (okay, I've changed me mind like a million times on this). .... Anyway I will also purchase pink (or purple) shirt and wear a chunky bangle and a bow. That will be my simple Daisy Duck inspired running outfit.

On December 22nd, my sister-in-law and I will be having a Disney Movie / Outfit Prepping day!

Obviously, I'm excited and look forward to sharing the fun with you. :)

What are you dressing up as for your Run Disney race?

When do you start planning your outfit?

My Princess Shoes are Yellow.

Okay my fellow Princess Half family members, what color are your Princess shoes?

At 11:00 a.m. week one of my Princess Training is complete. I'm super excited to have completed my first week with my fastest 2 miles ever. I'm also not looking forward to the realization that next week I will only get to do one of my training sessions (stupid wisdom teeth!) ...

In addition to my great week of running, I also got to go to a College Football game with my love.

By the way, ... my shoes are yellow (for now).

Princess in Training

Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Aurora, & Ms. Piggy!

What do they have in common?

... Well, you will probably find pictures of look-a-likes plastered all over Instagram, Twitter and Facebook in just about 21 weeks.  Why? The Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon.  Can you believe it?  We are about 21-ish weeks away from my very first 1/2 marathon. I'm SO excited.

Princess Training
Yesterday was my very first official training. In order to properly document, I asked my darling husband to take a picture of me.

As you can see, he took a BUNCH. Actually, he took more... I just didn't think I should post 25 pictures of me dancing around my living room as a "warm up" before my first run.

Seriously, sometimes I forget i'm a grown up. ...

How about you, have you started training yet?

In addition to training, my husband and I have continued to walk our pups an average of 2 miles each morning. If you work a full time job, and love spending time with your spouse, I highly recommend a morning walk.  I find myself much happier when I've spent the first 45 minutes of my day walking with and talking to my love. We also eat breakfast together (which he cooks). So, if you are looking for ways to spend more time with your spouse, set that alarm for 5:00 a.m. and go for a walk!
Other Health News

The oral surgeon finally called me today and I have scheduled my surgery to remove my wisdom teeth. I'm terrrrrrrfied. ... I actually start to panic when I think about it. There is something about the thought of the word "procedure" that FREAKS me out. ... AAHHH.  Okay. I'm a grown up, I can handle it. I know the Lord is going to take care of me and I know my husband is going to be the best care taker. ... So, nothing to worry about right?  If you think of me, pray for me.

Graduate School
Tonight we had to leave church early so that Mr. Handsome could come home and finish up some homework. He has 1 year left until he has his Masters in Nerdarian  (I mean, Library Science) ... Unfortunately, he needs to record a video ... and ... well. ... I can't seem to keep the pups from running up and down the stairs. Seriously, I think my dogs are louder than kids.

Any tips for keeping dogs quiet?

Sorry I've been MIA. Lots going on, unable to blog coherently.

I'll be back soon. <3
