As I crossed the finish line in Sunday, I was overwhelmed by the love and support of my husband waiting for me at the finish line. Before I got my medal, I ran over to him and kissed him. I then was congratulated by several total strangers and a medal was placed around my neck.
That evening we participated in a runchat on twitter and I was day dreaming of the day when I would be the one standing at the finish line waiting and cheering on Prince Charming as he finished a major race such as a Boston Marathon. The events of yesterday have left me heart broken.
I am heart broken for the running community. A community where at any moment during the run your hand could be grabbed in support, you will get a pat on the back, you will be asked "do you want me to take your picture", you will be genuinely loved.
The running community is so unique. As a newbie runner, I have been amazed by the love that surrounds me at each event I participate in.
When we stand in corrals, we stand shoulder to shoulder not interested in beating one another, but interested in beating our own time, or having a great run.
As a believer, my heart is also broken. Truly we live in a sad, hurting world. So many people around us are lost and hurting. We have hope.
As many people will be questioning, angry, confused and just completely broken, we must make an effort to show the love of Christ to those around us.
Running community, Boston, & The Leaders of this Country, I am praying for you.
