5 by the 5th - May!

I can hardly believe May is already here. We've had a couple days of beautiful weather, so it was pretty exciting to head out for my run with a cool breeze and 79 degree temp!

Thank you Laura from http://www.mommyrunfast.com/ for hosting the 5 by the 5th Challenge! I've truly had a blast, and am a little sad that next month is the last one!

I've been crazy busy the last week or two, and so I wasn't able to get my run in until the 6th. My philosophy is, ... it's the 5th somewhere right? I'm not doing this challenge for any kind of recognition or prizes. - I mean, don't get me wrong... Prizes are FUN! I'm just using this challenge as a tool to help motivate me to keep running. So far, it has worked! So, thanks again Laura for such a great Virtual Run Series!

As I have tried to do with the past couple Virtual 5k's, I brought my little rats along with me (Rat Terriers). Since I try to use these shorter runs as an opportunity to think about my stride, and enjoy running, it's the perfect opportunity to bring Romeo and Juliet along. Usually I get pretty frustrated for the first mile because they LOVE to explore everything passed, and use the bathroom about 900 times. But tonight ... I got smart! Before I turned on my Nike Plus and started tracking the run, we slowly walked for about a quarter of a mile. Once they seemed to be able to handle some running without stopping to chase a lizard, or try to eat something on the ground I started my app and we were off!

I felt wonderful! In all honesty, I didn't want to run tonight. Truth is, I am still pretty tired from our busy weekend of volunteering. However, it's important to get out there. Especially when you don't want to!  Running in a #RunTeamSparkle skirt always brings a smile, so ... I put it on for the run!

I'm really surprised at how well we did. My little Rats were pretty tired, and clearly looking for some hydration along the route, so I took several walk breaks and allowed them to rest. BUT - regardless of our walk breaks, and a slight chat with a neighbor dog (a.k.a. sniffing each other and trying to play) we ran our fastest 5K!

It's been really fun to see my times get faster each month.

After we got home, I wanted to incorporate some cross training into my evening. So, Prince Charming and I did Level 1 of the 30 day shred. True story, I find it easier to do those videos after a run. Your body is already warmed up! You should try it!

Just for fun, I did the 30 day shred in my Sparkle Skirt. I felt a little silly, but who says fitness needs to be serious? Fitness should be fun!!

From my family to yours, have a wonderful day!
