5 Tips for Staying Hydrated!

If you follow my blog, or know me personally. You know how seriously I take hydration. Well, as you can imagine, when I found out I was pregnant I went a little crazier about water intake. I couldn't help it - water is just so important!

So here are my five tips for staying hydrated. These tips have helped me stay hydrated when I was on my weight loss journey (pre-pregnancy) and on my current journey (Pregnancy!)

Tip 1: Start your day with a glass of water.
Especially during pregnancy, I find when I first wake up a glass of water is so refreshing! Also, during my weight loss journey I found that a glass of water helped keep me from sugary cereals and other bad breakfast choices!

Tip 2: Set a Goal
Make a goal - if you are a Type-A personality (love checklists, agenda's and planning) creating a goal for your water intake can be a great motivator!

Tip 3: Use a big cup!
I purchased the cup pictured above early in my pregnancy for a couple reasons. The main reason was because if I was going to reach my goal of (80-100 ounces of water a day) I needed a cup that I could fill up less often!

Tip 4: Drink cold water
Drinking cold-cold water helps me actually want to drink it. Yeah, warm water is probably healthier for you - i'm not really sure. I just know that I personally love cold-cold water!

Tip 5: Mix it up!
After a workout it's important to replenish your body with water and electrolytes. Right after a run, I really love a glass of cold water, but I've also recently fallen in love with Chocolate Coconut water. So, for my final tip. Don't be afraid to mix it up!

What are some of your tips for staying hydrated?

Disclaimer: I am not a health professional. These are just a few tips that have helped me maintain proper hydration. Enjoy!

October 28th, Weekly Chase!

Road Runner Girl

It's that time again. Time to link up with Mindy and Molly to share my goals, and then chase them!

Catch up from my last Chase!

How did I do?

Health Goals

1) Stretch and Roll my calf muscles each night - not every night - but I did get rid of the soreness from that pesky leg cramp.

2) Walk 1 mile on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday - Walked on Monday, ran on Saturday (it was raining on Tuesday and Thursday + a cool front so I was trying not to get sick).

3) Drink plenty of water - Yes! I've been able to maintain about 100 ounces of water a day. I feel best when I'm hydrated.

Home Goals
1) Put away my laundry - DONE!

2) Write in my pregnancy journal ... HAHAHA Nope!

This week, begins the final stage of pregnancy.

Trimester 3. You know, it's the fun part - you start to see little tiny socks and bathtubs for tiny people. You get distracted when you walk by your guest room and see that your guest bed was traded in for a crib ... a CRIB?  People are throwing you showers, and all you care to read seems to be articles and blog posts that are supposed to prepare you for motherhood.

Trimester 3...

Baby Jimenez will be here before I know it, so I better get going with my goals.

Health Goals
- Walk on Monday and Tuesday.
- Stretch and Roll
- Stay Hydrated
- Squat Challenge!

Baby Goals
- Buy note cards and stamps
- Prepare the #babyjimenez' room for an explosion of cuteness!!

Those are my goals, what are you chasing?!?!?!

Week 27 - Bumpdate!

How did this happen? How am I already in the very last week of Trimester 2? It feels like only a few days ago that we were celebrating my husbands birthday, and that little word "Pregnant" on the home test!

That little glimmer I saw on the ultrasound screen on June 5th, has grown into an estimated two pound baby girl! I might be a little biased, but I'm pretty sure she's GORGEOUS!

So on to the bumpdate!

Baby Size
According to my pregnancy emails, Baby Girl is about the size of a head of cauliflower and weighs roughly two pounds.

How are you feeling?
That wonderful question that everyone wants to know. Here's how I've been feeling.
All things considered, I feel great. I have no real complaints. What are "all things"? My belly is much bigger, and due to the changes in my body I tire more quickly. It's hard for me to accept that sometimes carrying my purse up the stairs to my condo is exhausting. - I understand WHY, I just don't like it.  Another joy of Baby Jimenez is the fact that my body temperature can go from normal to covered in sweat in about 25 seconds. I'm looking forward to lower fall, winter temperatures soon.

Any sickness?
Still no sickness. (Hooray!)
Just heartburn. - I read an old wives tale that said heart burn is related to hair being grown. Well, I've had serious heartburn for my entire pregnancy, so I'm getting pretty nervous that I might give birth to Chewbacca. ...

Staying Active for two.
My running has slowed down, but I'm still at it. I owe you guys some re-caps - they're coming soon! In addition to walking and running, I put myself of a squat challenge. I'm doing squats for a couple reasons.
1) They help keep your back and legs strong
2) It's just another non-weighted exercise that's safe for pregnant woman!

I have my next appointment on Thursday. During this appointment, I have to take the GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) - I'm NOT looking forward to that one. I had a scare early on (My sugars like spiked suddenly) but I was able to get it under control. I'm praying all is still well, and Baby Jimenez and I remain healthy.

After Thursday I've hit the next level of appointments. Yep. I get to go see my doctor every two weeks for a bit - then I move to every week, then BABY!!!!

Baby Prep!
Now that Prince Charming is in the downward slope of the semester, and graduation is so close we can almost hear the cheers - we have been moving right along with our check lists! Last Saturday Prince Charming's Dad and Mom came over with the crib and helped us set it up (a.k.a. the boys set it up, while the girls watched).  I'm also trying to get the room ready for after our showers.

My sisters are throwing me a shower in Tampa on November 2nd. I'm SUPER excited, it's a Storybook theme and everyone has been asked to bring a book for Baby Jimenez!

On November 16th, my other sister (The Jimenez sister) is throwing me a backyard tea party! The whole thing is super girly and I can't wait for that one either!!

I feel so spoiled, and excited!!

Baby Jimenez is on her way, expected due date is just about 91 days away.

Question: Has 2013 flown by for anyone else?

Pretty Muddy & Weekly Chase!

This Saturday Prince Charming and I had the opportunity to volunteer with Pretty Muddy at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in Miami! We arrived bright and early around 5:45 a.m. and made our way through the sea of tents to the Pretty Muddy tent. It took us quite a while to find the Pretty Muddy tent. Mostly because I had NO idea how large the health expo was going to be so I didn't really look at the map. After about 20 minutes of walking around, we pulled up the map and quickly located Meg!

Meg greeted us, gave us a couple of quick tips and sent us on our way to spread the word about Pretty Muddy! As race time approached, the crowd grew and was simply vibrant! I was so inspired as I walked around and saw so many survivors, supportive family members, friends and information booths. It was the largest health expo i'd ever seen at a race before!

At first it was hard to pass out the flyers about Pretty Muddy. Mostly because I'm super shy - and I have to really work at being out going! - i know right? Anyway! After about an hour, i'd passed out well over 100 flyers and made my way back to the table to hang out with Meg.

Overall it was a great opportunity to meet another event staff member for Pretty Muddy in person, and of course spread the word about Pretty Muddy!

So what is Pretty Muddy? It's a women's only mud run and obstacle course. With 10 different obstacles, ranging from a tube of foam to run through, and a giant slide leading you into a pool of mud, it's a must do for women of all ages!!

If you sign up for either the Tampa or Miami event during the month of October, you can receive a free t-shirt! Use the code TSHIRT at check out!
For more information, check out the Pretty Muddy website or my blog post about it!

We were only able to volunteer for a short time because we were setting up the crib on Saturday afternoon!!   - More of that later!

It's time for my Weekly Chase!!

Road Runner Girl

Linking up with Mindy and Molly (links to blogs in image above), I bring you another weekly chase!

Yesterday marked the beginning of my last week in the second trimester. I am like in total shock! I can't believe how fast time is flying, and that Baby Jimenez is almost here!! Since I've reached another milestone, i'll do a full bump date later this week! - So stay tuned!

Here are my goals for the week!

Health Goals!
1) Stretch and roll my calf muscles each night - had my first leg cramp last Thursday and I'm STILL sore.

2) Walk 1 mile on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday!

3) Drink plenty of water - Thursday's leg cramp was likely due in large part to de-hydration. :(

Home Goals
1) Put away my laundry

2) Pick an outfit to wear to my Baby Shower! - My sister's are throwing me a Baby Shower in Tampa on November 2nd.

3) Actually write in my Pregnancy Journal.

What are your goals for the week?

*Disclaimer, I am a blogger for the Pretty Muddy, Mud Run. Although I received one free entry into the race, the opinions posted are my very own.*

Weekly Chase! 10/7/13

How was your weekend? I had a really productive weekend at home. I finally got that giant pile of laundry folded and I think Prince Charming woke up and realized we are having a baby. - Because, I think he was nesting.

In one afternoon he cleaned out the babies room, glued the loose boards on the floor, put together the closet (a few times with a few trips to Home Depot), changed the battery in the smoke detector, and changed the faucets on two sinks.

So, nesting is not only real - it has hit my family.

On Sunday we celebrated Prince Charming's Great Grandmother's 100th Birthday! It was so beautiful to see her surrounded by family and so happy.  Isn't she the cutest?

So, now that you know about my weekend - let's recap my week!

Weekly Chase.

1) Walk 4 days. - Only walked once.
2) Fold the mountain of clothing - DONE!
3) Have Fun! - Yes.

This week, I'm chasing ...

1) Walk on Tuesday, Thursday
2) The Color Run!
3) Do my Squat Challenge!

Three simple goals, with no house or baby goals because ...

My husband will be working on his Comprehensive Exams this week. If you're unfamiliar with what that is ... basically, before you graduate with your masters degree you have to pass these "comprehensive exams". ... It's super stressful, and it's the last big step before Prince Charming can graduate.  Anyway, I'm really, really, really proud of my husband. Graduate school hasn't been the easiest adventure, but an adventure I wouldn't trade in for anything.

So, a lot of celebrating going on in our household! What are you celebrating?

Unrequited love...

Unrequited love.

You know, that one-sided love that makes a good romantic comedy? I'm beginning to believe that my love for the Tower of Terror 10-miler is a little one sided, and here's why.

2012 - The inaugural 10-miler... I wanted to go SO badly. Prince Charming and I had recently started running and we weren't sure if we were able to actually do a 10-miler. When we finally got the courage to register it was sold out. Sooo, at around midnight the night of the inaugural 10-miler my husband and I were still awake, reading all the tweets, looking at all the instagram pictures wishing SO badly that we were there. ... and then... my husband says to me "We're going next year, we just HAVE TO!"

February 2013, we were at the Expo for our very first half marathon and while everyone was all excited about pre-registering for the Wine and Dine Prince Charming and I registered for the TOT 10-miler.

May 2013, I found out I was expecting! Not too long after that I realized that I was going to have to defer my Goofy Challenge (Obviously because my due date is 6 days after the Marathon!). What I was not prepared for was deferring the TOT.

September 2013, I talked to my doctor about my running schedule and asked if I should defer... Of course, I wasn't surprised when I was told I should defer and stick with 5k's for the rest of my pregnancy -  it was just a little hard to swallow. I SO badly wanted to be in Disney partying with all those villains... I think I was in denial because I waited until the very last day to defer and event then. ... I made Prince Charming do the honors of deferring us.

Present Day, I'm still watching twitter and instagram to  can everyone on. - But, you better believe that I've already thought about our outfits for the 2014 TOT- 10 miler and asked my family to save the date so they could babysit!

Why Tower of Terror? Why Disney's Hollywood Studios?

March 2008, Prince Charming and I were driving to Disney ... approaching the gates ... and he asks me "How do you want to spend the day? Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot or Hollywood Studios?" I'd always dreamed of getting engaged at the Castle under the fireworks, but I was convinced there was NO way I was getting engaged that day. ... (so convinced I didn't even put on make up or do my hair, I just put on shorts and a shirt and went to Disney!) that I said "let's go to Hollywood!" So, away we went!

Around lunch time Prince Charming offered to take me to The Brown Derby for lunch. (Still clueless) I offered to sit on a bench and share a turkey leg instead... It took him a LOT of convincing to get me to the restaurant.  It was there at a small table over a Cobb salad and an apple martini a he proposed. ...

So, why Hollywood Studios? Because a piece of my heart will forever be linked to that memory.

Someday we'll be back, and ready to build another memory to treasure. 2013 may not be the year, and you know what ... 2014 might not either BUT someday I'll party with those villains!!

Is there a run you feel as though you have an unrequited love for?

A Storybook Squat Challenge!

It's hard to believe that I'm almost in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy. I've still been running and walking a few times per week, and doing squats off and on - but I haven't been dedicated. So, how do I get dedicated? ... I start a challenge of course!

Why Squat?
  1. Can be done with no equipment (weights are optional)
  2. Lower body workout!
  3. Strengthens your legs
  4. Strengthen your lower back
  5. also apparently really good for labor and delivery

How does my challenge work?
  1. Set a goal
  2. Tweet / Instagram about it!
  3. Follow along with #storybooksquats
What's my goal?
  1. Goal: 15 squats 4 days a week.
  2. Will tweet when complete
Now it's your turn, what will your goal be?

If you are currently expecting, please ensure that you speak with your doctor prior to beginning any type of new exercise routine. - I am not a fitness professional or health coach.
